Redesign
As teamdesk already has unique functionality, I think the most potential lies in usability and ui design. I think a modern design (like https://dribbble.com/shots/1458422-Vonigo-Schedule/attachments/216307) would not only make it easier for users to adapt to the database, but also makes it much easier to acquire new customers.

Hi yes all for a more modern design ... As long as it doesn't slow the system down with page refreshes,
Scott Miller 5/15/2017 11:32:25 AM
Agree with Bernhard. Improvements to the UI/Design would definitely help as I too feel this area lags behind the brilliant functionality.
Rick Cogley 5/17/2017 5:20:31 AM
The design cited is indeed nice. But I'm wondering how such a design could be reconciled with the "color flexibility" that is an important part of the current design. The fact that colors can be specified here and there seems to be a favorite part of the UI, according to my users.
Patricio Bustos 5/18/2017 1:17:54 PM
Yesterday I was in a talk of PowerBI of Microsoft and clearly the graphic engine is very powerful. If TeamDesk had any of that engine as shown by Bernhard it would be fantastic.
Bernhard Schulz 6/28/2017 6:16:54 AM
Anyone out there using teamdesk database with a custom user interface on API-basis?
Scott Miller 12/20/2017 5:59:21 AM
Wondered if this was on the 'roadmap' as it's probably the area that is questioned most?
Slava Shinderov  Staff  12/21/2017 7:38:36 AM
@All yes, it's on our roadmap but we can't provide you with any ETA as for now.
Instead of redesigning everything from scratch we will try to provide step by step improvements.
By the way we'll be appreciated if you answer following questions:

What do you love/hate about our current design?
Why to redesign, what do you expect from redesigned UI?

Patricio Bustos 12/21/2017 10:52:16 AM
Hi Slava,
I believe that the current design is highly functional and operational, and with that there is no problem. But there are other more modern ways of presenting the information and we would love them to be available. An example is shown by Bernhard. In my case I am fascinated by the Power BI design of Microsoft. I think a similar concept for TeamDesk would make it much better.
Scott Miller 1/3/2018 8:53:16 AM
I know Santa has been and gone but here’s my wish list!

More control/flexibility on Form and Dashboard layouts
• Independent column height/width on Forms (e.g. a date or Y/N columns can be small)
• More than 4 columns on a Form row
• More than 2 Views on a Dashboard row and ability to resize each one
• Ideally you would build a form/dashboard that would contain modules you could resize and position
• A module can contain tabs of related Tables (e.g. you are edit a customer record and can see the last x Invoices or last x emails in the module/window)
• Not having to carriage return a new row if the end section is larger (this ties in with the ability to resize)
• Ability to change font/style/colour via interface without css hacks

Allow columns to be justified left or right (this is a right pain 😊).

The screenshot posted is a good example of using softer fonts/colours in general use.

I know the current form/dashboard layout aims to cater for all the various pc/laptop/mobile/tablet screen sizes/resolutions, so it would be great if that was still available as a default for those that would prefer the one size fits all setup.

You did ask!

basenine 1/8/2018 12:15:10 AM
- Fixed Header where "My Team Desk", "Support", User and "Setup" reside. Put the company logo here as well.
- Hide logo on devices but allow for easy setup of WebApp icon where uploaded images go through resizing at TD's end ..... like it's done here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/os-integration/
- Modern Calendar on right pane....I like that.
- Left pane to house tables, rather than on top. Views/Reports to be in own section under the Tables. (Use 'More" like the Vonigo Schedule image shows)
- Independent scrolling within panes: Left/Centre/Right
- Flatten/modernise buttons (like the Vonigo Schedule image)
- clear the white-noise (for example, the white lines between columns in forms is unnecessary)
basenine 1/9/2018 12:00:40 AM
Strangely, this:
https://teamdesk.crmdesk.com/image.aspx?mode=file&id=8559
...was the original intention of the new forms.
IMO much clearer to read.
My understanding is that there was an issue with padding (?)

- More (or rather, better) colour selection options. The basic ones currently available scream windows '98.

Rick Cogley 1/10/2018 12:46:05 AM
Hi basenine, you can specify hex values I think but, it would be nice if the default picker-blocks were set to nicer colors. I like these defaults: http://clrs.cc/

As for me, I'd like:

* in addition to displaying field name above or to the left of a field, I'd like the ability to hide it.

* the ability to blur out or show a field, similar to what you can do in Reddit with the spoilers command, or, have the option for a show/hide toggle, for a given field. This would be great for quizzes.

* ability to set a default for views with "ask the user" fields. When you open such a view, it automatically shows the default selection but, you can still change it.

* have a popup with more info appear, when hovering over a calendar entry.

* pin-able tabs for users.

* ability to star favorite views, and have them show up in an automatic favorites section under views.

Here's the reddit version: https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/i2mg6/attention_we_now_have_a_new_spoilertagging_system/

basenine 1/10/2018 12:53:07 AM
Hello Rick...HB for the other day 😉

I use these values in the Variables section of the Database Table:
BOOTSTRAP BLUE #418CC6
BOOTSTRAP DARK BLUE #3F729B
BOOTSTRAP GREEN #00B572
BOOTSTRAP LIGHT RED #F97675
BOOTSTRAP MID RED #FE575C
BOOTSTRAP ORANGE #F1AB5C
BOOTSTRAP RED #DB4F5

Then I can use them in formulas a little easier. Var([BOOTSTRAP GREEN]), for example.
PITA setting it up on every database though
Rick Cogley 1/10/2018 12:55:15 AM
Thanks! Happy New Year!

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'd like to have universal variables that could be set once and used in all projects or, a way to easily load them without fiddling.
basenine 1/10/2018 2:25:17 AM
As a note to self...
I played around with fixing the navbar and logo section today.
Fantastic results...esp the SETUP being static, so when I'm digging deep down a page and see an error or something that can be tweaked, context-menu the SETUP link and open in a new tab without losing my position of the page. nice 👍

https://photos.app.goo.gl/H1rBJgcWnIqCawGW2

I won't be using my way of doing it (unless pressed), however I'd like to see TD create a navbar and logo header like the dribbble image above.
Scott Miller 7/2/2018 10:16:53 AM
@Slava any update ref this?
Scott Miller 2/21/2019 9:21:22 AM
@Slava is this still on the To Do Do List?
Kirill Bondar  Staff  2/25/2019 6:32:49 AM
Rather than simple facelift we are discussing the way to try transforming TeamDesk - or at least its user facing part - to PWA ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_web_applications ).

Chrome and Firefox have solid support for it, Edge's is weaker though there are rumors they are planning to switch to Blink rendering engine, and if it true, they'll be in par with Chrome. Apple's PWA support lags behind, though what they have at the moment worth trying.
Scott Miller 2/25/2019 9:13:34 AM
Thanks Kirill! Sounds promising
Jorge Solá 3/7/2019 9:50:08 PM
It would also be very nice to include in the new design the possibility of translating the text of buttons, messages, etc. to the users' language.
Dave Ah Ching 4/2/2019 3:35:45 PM
If I had to choose just one feature in the redesign, it would be the abiltity to use DBFlex in an offline mode (no internet connection) which I believe PWA supports this.

I get this question everytime with every new client I see and all my exsiting clients ask when can I deliver this.

Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/3/2019 5:50:14 AM
> offline mode .. which I believe PWA supports

Do not expect any magic and think it will be fully functional offline app. Some tables consist of millions of records and our multi-core SQL Server runs at 100% CPU to handle the queries to that tables -- you do not expect us to download such a database in a whole (to the smartphone!) and go offline, do you? :)

The scenario that sounds realistic is to cache visited pages (mainly dashboards and views) and when offline let the user browse the cache (perhaps outdated) instead of trying to connect to the network and failing like non-PWA sites do.

No editing, no custom buttons, no documents.
Dave Ah Ching 4/3/2019 6:29:42 AM
No I defintely dont expect all functions or the entire DB, and yes no magic :-).

Just something to consider how this may work in in TD/DBFlex and probably decide if it is worth going down this path if you cannot do much more then just view.

I was shown the other day another service that does provide this capability but also allows creation of new records and forms visual perspectives that simulate the actual form. Havent really proven it myself but it was interesting to see. There were some pre-requistes where the user needed to fetch the data first while online and then toggle an offline switch to stop data being sent to the server for these records......

Anyway, like I said, if I had just one thing I could choose....

Thanks Kirill

Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/3/2019 7:27:34 AM
TeamDesk indeed starves from its legacy - a lot of markup and code written to support then-non-standard IE. Situation is now changed and most browsers' functionality is in par with each other. This time we'll try to do it in a top-down way - design for most recent browser versions in mind and then gradually add support for older ones if needed - or perhaps it won't be needed, as nowadays de-facto standard site support policy is to support two most recent browser versions and functionality we need is at least two years old.

> creation of new records

In our case form behaviors spoils the ability. It would be realistic if behaviors were based on the values of current record, but in general the behavior can request the data anywhere from the database in order to show/hide fields - parent record, ancestors, aggregated value from parent's details... Even worse, while offline we can't calculate whether it is allowed to create the record or not if user property table is involved.
basenine 4/18/2019 2:13:58 AM
>>Apple's PWA support lags behind, though what they have at the moment worth trying...

Looks like they're getting on the same pathway as Chrome/Opera/Firefox regarding their PWA development.

https://medium.com/awebdeveloper/progressive-web-apps-pwas-are-coming-to-a-safari-near-you-216812aba5a

I still haven't found tools like Lighthouse (Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lighthouse/blipmdconlkpinefehnmjammfjpmpbjk)
for OSX. If anyone knows and can share, brilliant 😀

Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/18/2019 5:48:19 AM
What bugged me is that PWA Application is initialized every time after going background in iOS
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/49586797/pwa-application-is-initialized-every-time-after-going-background-in-ios

Seems fixed in iOS 12.2
basenine 4/19/2019 5:55:36 AM
Hi Kirill
I had a Fronius inverter installed last week (for solar panels...Fronius.com)
I can either log onto their website or use their iOS app to see power generated and power consumed.
The website offers a fraction more than the app, so I added it to the home screen rather than just book mark it.
Turns out they have a beautiful PWA design which strips all the guff and allows for a much better user experience - an enclosed ecosystem with no URL bar and no loss of screen-estate
I can run the app (login to my account), then close out for any length of time, restart the app and be back on without a re-login. The page simply refreshes and we’re good to go.
One thing I’d like TD to be able to do in a PWA environment is to Refresh with spring down action
Other than that, TD lends itself beautifully to a PW app
basenine 4/22/2019 7:45:43 PM
@kirill,
To clarify above - >>"I can run the app...">> means I can run the PWA

Also:
https://www.pwabuilder.com
You probably already have...but, worth checking out
I tried my Invoices page on the dbflex account and the PWA builder generated all the files necessary, then allowed for more customisation with icons and offline pages.

If you could allow these generated files to be used easily (and specifically - i.e a specific area to build a PWA) in TD, then it would seem to be a pretty straightforward transition.

Hi there ! I do agree that ui redesign to modern standards would be a fantastic thing. It would ease and fasten the tool adoption in our team. Especially for irregular users. Because otherwise Teamdesk rocks !
Bernhard Schulz 1/20/2020 12:05:05 PM
Any updates regarding redesign? It's getting harder and harder to sell teamdesk to users when they are used to modern user interface design. Teamdesk ui lags more and more behind the time.
Nick Ashcroft 1/21/2020 10:40:54 AM
when evaluating teamdesk vs the competition it was close call between TeamDesk and QuickBase.

whilst we are very happy with teamdesk, the UI is indeed holding it back from wider adoption into other projects.

here is a demo video I took from their website where you can see some of the UI
https://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/lwur5ltvf4

It would be nice to see some advances from TeamDesk in this area

Kirill Bondar  Staff  1/23/2020 5:50:47 AM
We are working on modernizing TeamDesk from ground up -- with localization, accessibility and limited offline functionality in mind.

Things going slightly slower than we initially expected but I think we'll be ready to present early alpha version in the beginning of the spring 2020.
Nick Ashcroft 1/23/2020 8:38:06 AM
Kirill - great to hear that. Looking forward to seeing it.

Any design mockups you can share already ;-)
Louis dB 1/23/2020 10:38:14 AM
Looking forward to seeing this new version !
basenine 2/23/2020 8:37:16 PM
Tighter or better looking calendar function will be welcome.
I don't care if the Calendar feed function stays the same... just the look and feel of the inbuilt calendar needs to have a better GUI and better control over items that go over DAYS or for multiple HOURS...it'd just be nice to have a record represented graphically funkier
bernhard.schulz@compensation2go.com 3/18/2020 11:46:46 AM
Kiril, can you specify what will come with the new modernized version?
Luison Lassala 3/19/2020 11:50:31 AM
Some very good suggestions here! Indeed @Scott Miller, it reads like a Santa Klaus list!
Two suggestions out of many I could make:
> Better use of screen space: too much 'white space' above views and forms
> Greater flexibility designing Forms (aligning column values, font & size, etc as mentioned in several comments above), especially Search forms/columns: they take up too much View space as you cannot stagger them across the screen.

Luison Lassala 3/19/2020 12:34:15 PM
The most amazing enhancement to TD (already a very powerful db tool!) would be to add a Display Panel for Table Views:
instead of having to click on VIEW button to see the record's form, scrolling down to a specific row/record on the Table View list (on the light-side of the screen) would display the form (or a selection of fields) on a right-side panel.
basenine 4/23/2020 6:41:48 PM
a manifest record for each table would be helpful
basenine 5/4/2020 7:29:57 PM
Having the System columns appear from side/bottom or top of record when hovered over "System Columns" Icon would be nicer than current method
Nick Ashcroft 6/24/2020 8:28:59 AM
any update on the redesign ? I have a project in mind where design is a more important factor, but teamdesk doesnt make the shortlist on potential solutions due to the dated design.
Nick Ashcroft 10/8/2020 2:09:31 PM

I see your site has been rebranded a little - does this mean we can look forward to the redesign launch soon ?
Pierre 3/30/2021 1:49:47 PM
basenine 3/30/2021 5:24:01 PM
@Nick....Let's hope so.
Nice GUI used for the [promotion] forms 👍 . Things I like:

Record snippet detail in the main tab bar
Larger column height
All column names to the right (again...and hopefully not degraded to ellipses if too long)
Better use of screen, with section headers at 100% page width
SILKA font
Square borders on sections (no rounded corners)
Bright and clear screen...less noise (for example, no 'create new' and the simple 'search glass' with no extra field distracting the bar)
Views pane when you need it....and I'm guessing the 'create new' could be exposed via the hamburger, too.
Rick Cogley 3/30/2021 9:16:21 PM
I love the new branding!
Joseph Kurian 8/3/2022 5:05:30 PM
It would be nice that TD create some themes which the uses (developers) can choose from. Each theme can have certain color combinations for tabs, bars, menu etc. I have been working with another online database system sometime back, and there we could choose different themes. It is just like Windows themes for background, boarder, menu etc.

This opinion is only for the color schemes, other UI development ideas which other users recommended above are also should be considered.
bernhard.schulz@compensation2go.com 10/14/2022 9:41:45 AM
@Kirill: any updates as to when this relaunch will happen? Many thanks
