Default for Parameter for the Ask function
I have a Chart View which asks for a date to be entered to decide for which month the chart should be displayed. With Parameter as it is currently specified I can either make entering the parameter required or not.

If I make it not required and the user presses Execute Query without making an entry then it displays the chart for every available date as expected, but this is unreadable.

If I make it required and the user presses Execute Query without making an entry then it displays an error also as expected, but annoying for the user.

In both cases, 90% of the time the user actually wants the chart for the current month. So what I would like to suggest is that in Parameter it is possible to define a default. In this particular case it might be Today(), but obviously this would have to be set up to match the field type in question and allow for literals such as "New York", etc, just like defaults in column definitions.

@Staff

Stumbling over this one again today. I have a dashboard where with the lack of a default parameter, it just goes ahead and runs one of the contained views for every possible record which in some cases causes a timeout and otherwise produces so much data on the screen as to be meaningless.

Can we get a default as suggested 3 years ago?

Thanks
