Make Old Column value in Workflow Action: Create new record
I see that for the Workflow Action E-mail alert, there is access to the old column values for record. If this were also available from the Create Record action, then this could be used to generate a log of changes to a record.

E.G I have a table of Cases. Whenever a user changes the Case description, I want to make an entry into a log table noting that this was done (I can do that today already), what the old value was and what the new value is.

I do not understand you seem to say you can to this already but then you say you are asking to be able to do it.

I agree your idea is a good one. It has been proposed a few times by others including myself. I do not know if or when it will be implemented.

but in the meantime there are alternative ways to make a log of changes.

There is an excellent example pre-built. Make a new database and use a predefined, example, Tracking Column History..

I have tracked changes in a variety of ways depending on what i need to track. I would be happy to show you sometime if you need.

To your first line,
The functionality is only available with Email Alert action, not with the Create New Record action
