Coloured Sections within a form
Forms can sometimes be hard to focus on - especially when there is lots of information on the screen.

It would be nice to be able to select a colour for a section within the Form Layout setup - "Section Colorisation"

The attached pic is a crude example based on some html text hacks but it shows the idea. It's also a snippet of some actual screens which had much more information on it.

In reality, maybe only the headings change colour or the result changes colour (like when using xhtml.... using xhtml in this case would be tiresome though as you'd need to double up the Columns)

What do you think?

We do not want cluttering the setup with tons of extra options, so our proposition is to extend the section's setup interface with one "base" color. Based on this color we will automatically select the color for section's backgrounds similar to how it is done for tabs - you are selecting darker shade for active tab and we are calculating lighter shade for inactive one.

This sounds good - just like the Table Properties in Setup where you can use "Row Colorization".

I think this is the simplest solution and should work the best

Maybe one other feature would be to Restrict Access by Role in sections. That'd make it easier to do the setup as you wouldn't need to go into each column to restrict access.
This might help with:

as well?

@Brett: from the set of matching behaviors we are picking up latest from Editable, Required, Readonly, Hidden.
You can use [Role1] or [Role2] or [Role3] -> Hidden; since Hidden have highest priority, such a behavior will override any other.

Awesome;)

This is so easy (I love the icon). I just tested the feature from my iPhone and it worked flawlessly - it would have taken 10mins using the html text trick. This took less than 1min!!

Another great job well done from team Team Desk...
Cheers

Another alternative to this would be to simply outline the section in the highlighted colour rather than colouring the whole set of fields.

This would give it a softer appearance and would be easier on the eye.

I'd propose a bordered outline and the section heading to be coloured in the same.

Rounded corners too - it really does look nicer than the Googleized/Android squareness.
