Email subscriptions - zero records
For email subscriptions, can you provide an option that if "there are no records to show" the email is not sent in the first place. This should be an option as sometimes one wants the empty email and sometimes one doesn't

It doesnt make sense when a view subscription is sent EMPTY. It is really neccesary configure view subscription to be sent just when at least one record match with the condition.

Thanks.

I agree it should be optional, and as mentioned elsewhere, it would be good if the user can just subscribe themselves as they like, similar to what they can do with the Export and Send buttons already.

I agree - in all the situations I've encountered so far, I wouldn't want the email if it was empty. I'd prefer to just not get an email, unless there is something to show.

177 - Configure new option View Subscription

In some situations, it is important to know that nothing has happened - ie to receive the subscription with ZERO records.

In other situations, it is unhelpful.

I have both requirements so I prefer that the subscription set up has a check box along the lines of "do not send if zero records returned"

I prefer to be able to set the option.

Secondly, I would want individual users in the list of qualifying users (eg Role) to be able to self opt out/in of a given subscription AND to select their preferred frequency.

I notice this morning that a "Don't send when there are no results" check box was implemented yesterday. I am using it already today. Thank you.

As this idea has been marked as status "Implemented", I will now raise a new Idea for the "self opt out/in" idea.

By the way, there is one thing I forgot to mention.

To speed up notification rendering process we are extracting the data from the database only when %ViewData% placeholder is present in notification body - you may want to render the link to the view, but not the view data itself.

In absence of %ViewData% no database access is performed, we do not know whether there is a data in the view or not, thus in this case "Don't send" checkbox is ineffective.

Kirill
Does your underlying database not have a "count" function you could use in the absence of %ViewData% to determine a zero return?

In this situation we are in doubt. Surely we can calculate the count to determine the number of records. Yet, the message with %ViewData% is all-sufficient, the message without it is not: it all depends on the time the message is read; following the link to the view (if any, by the way) may, or may not return you some results; it all depends on the view's filter settings. So, why to add extra load?
