Avoid nested IF-clauses that grow exponentially with the number of arguments.

Can you describe your problem from business side?
What's the source of these duplicates in the first place?
May be incorrect/non optimal data structure is the cause of duplicates?

We have some paint options and startup cost depends on the number of unique colors.

I think there needs to be a version of the function where Null values are ignored.
