Allow more layers of security based on the User
Say you have a field that a CSR needs access to enter data and edit the data in the field but once entered only a Manager or Supervisor should be able to view the data in the field.

HR Example: At a remote branch and Manager is responsible for keying in a new hires data into the new employees record, they will key in the wage and the SS#. Once keyed in you only want HR to be able to view the record, however the Manager would need to e able to edit the field for updates and error correcting, just when they open it all they see is XXXXXX until they key over it.

This extra layer of data control could lend it's self useful in many many ways. Several of our applications need this extra layer to protect data after it is keyed but other users need access to edit it, not view it.

It could work by adding an extra layer to the fields Restrict access right by role adding in a "Edit Only" that acts like describe above. Edit Only would allow that Role to only edit the field and when they edit or view it all they see is XXXXXX but can type over it.

View/Modify/Edit Only

Thanks for your consideration.

@Bernie you can consider using form behavior to implement such additional layer of security:
