Example: Recurring Tasks ( http://www.teamdesk.net/recurring_tasks.html ) application demonstrates the implementation of recurring tasks via workflow rules.

As opposed to a new application and workflow rules, seems like a new column could be created in both tasks and/or events that is titled reoccuring events. It's like the matching area w/ the default being "none" and then there's (is, on, on or after, before, etc.) days, weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. just like you have under the matching rules under views.
