TeamDesk new UI preview
We are ready to preview TeamDesk new UI - changes were outlined last month in our blog post from August, 27
http://blog.teamdesk.net/2014/08/upcoming-teamdesk-changes.html

If you are interested in previewing new UI please make a **development branch** of your app, invite selected people to a branch and send us an URL of the application to support@teamdesk.net; we'll then re-route an application to new UI.

Thanks Kirill.

Do you want feedback on this thread or via support@teamdesk?
Slava Shinderov  Staff  9/30/2014 6:51:04 AM
@All please feel free to post any feedback here.

Hi Guys the UI looks much cleaner :-)

My preference is to hide the sidebar and for it to remain hidden until needed otherwise you lose a large % of the screen. At the moment every time I return to the screen the sidebar is showing. I am missing something?
Kirill Bondar  Staff  9/30/2014 7:06:32 AM
@Scott: there is a pin icon to the right of the sidebar header - unpin it. Then you'll be able to show sidebar temporarily using "three bars" icon - it will auto-hide on a first click outside the sidebar.
Scott Miller 9/30/2014 7:36:40 AM
@kirill: quite possibly user error but unpinning only lasts for the current action. It then defaults to pinned? I need the sidebar to remain hidden (unpinned) until required.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  9/30/2014 7:55:01 AM
@scott: this is a bug, will fix ASAP
Scott Miller 9/30/2014 8:15:30 AM
@kirill: Ok thank you

On another point and this is personal preference the option to sort the More Table tab alphabetically would be good.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  9/30/2014 9:41:29 AM
@scott: Pinning is fixed now.

As for sorting tables - now the code transforms tabs that does not fit to the screen into dropdown menu; when you decrease window width last tab is converted to menu item, when you increase the width, top menu item converted into a last tab. While alphabetic sort will help to find proper table faster it would be harder to predict menu-to-tab conversion logic. Let's left it open for a while.
Scott Miller 9/30/2014 10:00:07 AM
@kirill: yep all good!
Daniel Vazquez Ger 9/30/2014 3:03:23 PM
Congrats !!

Some tips:

1) The name of the tables in tabs should not be in upper case but as user defined.
2) When you edit a form the requiered columns should be in red.
3) Same when you add or edit an inline.
4) The sidebar should be unpined as default

:)

Could the Setup button go in the very top row next to 'Spaces' drop list rather than where it is now?
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/1/2014 4:51:32 AM
@Daniel

2) and 3) Instead of marking required columns we have switched to marking columns that have an invalid state with red outline around the input box. Required column with value filled in is valid. Required column with no value is invalid and marked as such.

4) Sidebar is pinnable and pinned by default on screens larger than 1024px. As soon as you'll pin/unpin it we'll remember the state for an application in a cookie.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/1/2014 4:53:14 AM
@basenine: we are thinking of swapping setup button and workspace selector. stay tuned.
Gii Systems 10/1/2014 6:16:17 AM
Tested with mobile (Galaxy Note3 on Android) and very happy so far (since the sidebar bug fix). Well done.

@Kirill - any hope of getting chart views updated to fit in with new UI look and feel?
Maybe with 'Details View' link through? Or maybe tooltip on chart sections?
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/1/2014 6:42:46 AM
@Jacques: so far charts are server-generated images and interaction is hardly possible. we are thinking to convert them to vector-based graphics - this will solve many shortcomings.

The Change Role link doesn't seem to work on a tablet (ipad)?
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/6/2014 8:44:47 AM
@scott: fixed
Gii Systems 10/8/2014 6:53:15 AM
@Kirill - I have a user on IE9 that cannot upload file attachments. Are there anything I should check on in setup? (Does work in Chrome though)

Also - Can the font size of dashboard headings be decreased a slight bit?
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/8/2014 9:11:06 AM
@Jacques: going to fix file uploads ASAP.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/8/2014 9:50:05 AM
@Jacques: file upload should be fixed
Rick Cogley 10/9/2014 3:29:29 AM
Hi Guys - nice job on this update. Looks great!

One thing I noticed -

When I have a multi-select, like choosing multiple contacts to associate with some record, after searching then hitting Add and before Saving, the selected items are kind of listed up with a bullet point, which looks different from items which have already been selected in a previous save.

It just looks a bit odd, in the context of the new UI.

FYI.
Rick Cogley 10/9/2014 4:19:32 AM
In SETUP, I love that you can hide the sidebars. I use a 2nd monitor oriented in portrait mode, and this lets me see everything now. Thanks.
Rick Cogley 10/9/2014 4:21:51 AM
When you have a bunch of tabs pinned in SETUP, it's a little confusing to select a tab from the right-hand drop down, and have it not show up because you have too many pinned already.
Rick Cogley 10/14/2014 5:18:39 AM
I like the labs font selector on the lower right, but, on an iPhone it is a little hard to tap. FYI.
basenine 10/14/2014 5:48:52 AM
That's actually a good point Rick.
Why have the sidebar full of Tables now anyway? With the new format to only show 1 row and a drop list for the rest, we could do away with the tables sidebar
Rick Cogley 10/14/2014 5:58:55 AM
The left hand sidebar makes sense to me, if you can filter. If you have 100 tables, scrolling gets old.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/14/2014 6:24:32 AM
@Rick: start typing in a search field without pressing return key - it will filter info on screen in a sidebar and a table in a main part if any

Rick Cogley 10/14/2014 6:45:07 AM
@Kirill, thanks. Yes, in SETUP, that works well. I love that feature.

I wish there were a skillful way to have that kind of logic applied to the new "hidden tabs" list on the right. If you have a bunch pinned in SETUP, it's confusing when you select one that is not visible, since it does not pop into the visible area.

If you have too many tabs in the USER side, it's probably a matter of judicious use of workspaces.

Though, in both cases, some kind of filtering mechanism to quickly find what's hidden, would be sweet.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/15/2014 4:33:17 AM
@Rick: normally, in setup part, just like in app part, selected tab should never be placed in a dropdown. Perhaps it's an "few pixels off" glitch in a tab calculations.

As for getting rid of the list of tables in a left side bar, we'll play with this idea. Indeed, we can sort tabs by [pinned, name] so that pinned tabs will always display first. Then we can move Customize sidebar to the left making interface uniform across all parts.
Rick Cogley 10/15/2014 5:31:45 AM
Thanks Kirill. Yeah, I'm using a 2nd monitor oriented in Portrait mode, so, that might contribute to the problem.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/16/2014 3:47:24 AM
@Rick: We do not operate screen information rather the size of the page content. I noticed this glitch again few minutes ago on a single monitor - the tab was missing initially but once I start to **reduce** browser's width at some moment it appears back. We'll check it out.
Rick Cogley 10/17/2014 2:45:16 AM
Thanks.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/17/2014 7:35:38 AM
Drag-and-drop form editing is back again!
basenine 10/17/2014 12:54:52 PM
Great. Thanks team TD
Kirill Bondar  Staff  10/23/2014 7:01:53 AM
We've moved setup part to a grid layout - it would now be easier to manage settings on mobile devices.
