Column colorisation in views
It would be nice to be able to color a column in a view as well as the row. I have an instance whereby 4 date fields sit side by side...the last one being the critical one. It would be helpful if I could color that column so the users eye was more easily drawn to it.

Couldn't you use an XHTML col to reference the col you want to color?
basenine 3/23/2014 4:09:29 PM
Yes. But if I had a color that interfered with a row colorisation, it might not display well. I'd need it to override the row colorisation

Today, we've added new option for Text/Formula – Text columns – colorization bases on whether the value contains certain text:

@Slava
Great! Thanks!
Is there a plan to add color to numeric and formula - numeric fields?
Slava Shinderov  Staff  2/2/2015 11:00:42 AM
@Gerardo no, please consider creating "Formula-Text" column which will "calculate" status string depending on values of other columns and then colorize it if needed.

Nice feature. The color of lookup columns seems unaffected however.
Robert Gustavsson 2/3/2015 3:16:00 AM
Also, full formula support would be desirable.
Slava Shinderov  Staff  2/3/2015 3:18:43 AM
@Robert please uncheck the "Display as Link" option to allow lookup colorization.

Nice feature, but I think Gerardo's idea of making this available in numeric fields is a good one. It could base on value ranges. EG:
< -100 : RED
>= -100 and < +100 : YELLOW
>= +100 : Green
etc

I don't quite see how your suggested workaround above is going to achieve this without creating a second field which always has to be displayed beside the first field.

Thanks

@All From our point of view - colorization based on single record numeric/date/duration value has very limited usage scenarios.
For example - display negative number in red or highlight past due date.
Currently we've no plans to allow full formula language for column colorization.

actually, exactly those examples made by you would be far more useful and relevant that colour coding based on text content.
Gii Systems 2/25/2015 3:54:35 AM
I use the Formula XHTML to colorize numeric values in views at the moment.
I do agree that it will be super useful if this was possible without having to create an extra column.

Might be one to keep in mind for future enhancement please.

The original Idea was to be able to have Date Fields colorised. Numeric and Date Fields colorisation would be one of the handiest features and would clear up Views where the whole row is coloured due to ????

I say ???? as there is no legend for Users to know what each colour means. You need to have written the application to know why you chose a row to colour based on specifics. You might have more than one thing that has influence a colour change over two different fields....which one takes Priority...the real priority?
It's a sloppy function at the moment, to be honest, and it assists in making the whole view look quite unrefined.
Please strongly consider Numeric and Date colourisation. 😀

From my own comments above I am clearly in support of basenine's comments.

To pick up on one particular aspect, I wonder if the actual color part of the colorization formula is allowed to be a formula. If that were the case then you could have a user settings are where the user decides which colours are used and you program those variables into your colorization formulas. I suspect this may already be possible today, but have not experimented.

I have a scenario at the moment where a field choice is one of "Capital" and "Non Capital". I need to colours the "Capital" one...Only thing is, as the only option is CONTAINS "Capital"....and both selections contain "Capital"....then the colour goes on both.

It is specifically the "Capital" one i need coloured as this one is selected <1% of the time
Slava Shinderov  Staff  4/23/2015 5:15:46 AM
@basenine please specify "blank" (no value) color for contains "Non" and use "otherwise" to specify any color for "Capital".
basenine 4/23/2015 5:59:17 AM
ohhh yeah! 😉
Thanks Slava

Numeric colourisation situation again...

3 Numeric columns side by side:
Number of Product:
Number of Parts(unique) in Product:
Total Quantity of parts...

Being able to Highlight the total would enable the user to be attracted to the 'important' number ("Total Quantity of parts"). At the moment, that number seems 'lost' in the report
basenine 8/5/2015 6:12:39 PM
Another numeric colourisation situation:

A Mould/Bacteria count is > than defined range, colour alters appropriately --> field is pushed to document along with colour.

A nice easy and attractive way to show a difference in a document. The current tools mean creating a xhtml column...the output is not as attractive though.

Another Numeric colourisation requirement:

4 Numeric fields side by side in a View with InLine Editing: [Height], [Width], [Depth], [Rail depth]...viewing the correct one at a glance (esp when you have 20+ rows to go through), makes my eyes bleed!

Discovered a workaround:
Create Formula - Text...in Formula bar add:

Format([Column Name])

then choose "otherwise" color to color of your choice...this will get all results to be the same color. As I originally posted, it was to clarify a mixed bag of numbers, side by side - hence "Column Colorisation".
basenine 6/1/2016 11:44:02 PM
The new colourisation as explained here:
https://www.teamdesk.net/blog/whats-new/improved-text-column-colorization/

whereby a standard 'text' field can now have checkboxes/radio buttons...and therefore colourise appropriately...

It would be of significant benefit to extend this (column colourisation) to 'checkbox' columns...where we can still have a Yes/No result (even with it's own specific values - 'YES' might display as "Go Ahead, Make my day!", for example)...

I've had a couple of instances recently where I've needed to create a yes/no text column and have them as selected from a drop list rather than using the checkboxes because only one value is allowed. It's either 'Yes' or 'No'....no quantum computing 'Maybes' allowed!
