New Setup Layout
We're going to change setup layout in order to better handle databases with large number of tables.

All tabs will be sorted alphabetically and moved to the left side of screen while "Customize Database" section will be moved from left to the right side. We also will keep these sections always on screen regardless of scrolling position.

Additionally we'll change how system navigates between tables: now it'll try to keep your location unchanged. For example if you're customizing columns in one table and switch to another one, system will navigate you to the customize column screen instead of table overview as it was before.

If you wish to give it a try please enable that feature in Setup -> Tools -> Labs section.

I my view this type of setup in the user front end would be much cleaner, as the current top tabs are a handful to navigate at times

This is less cluttered without duplicated options - works for me

With recent system update we've moved "Database" link to the top and added ability to "Pin" favorite tables beside it.

Nice feature! +1 on the Pin

When scrolling the main (middle) section, why does the Header row need to move? i.e. can't the pinned tabs just stay there?
basenine 8/30/2013 8:30:57 PM
I've pinned a few Tabs to the top bar and the most recent one moved to a different position. It's not following any logic as to why i.e. not alphabetical, not the order the Tables are normally in…it just moved. I was hoping the tabs would remain where we pinned them for easy reference. It would also be nice to be able to drag them into an order (if possible).

Cheers

Ha - maybe it is Alphabetical. I just realised my "singular" named table is different to the Plural named table…that threw me off the scent! "Item(PO)" singular --> "Picklist" plural!

Will it be possible to have the Tabs set in the order of appropriate WorkFlow please - which is the way we adjust using "Set the Tables Order"
Thanks for considering

I just wanted to say - the ability to pin tables is really nice. Nicely done.

We're finding this quite easy to use and navigate. Thanks again.
Arnold Hakobyan 9/8/2013 11:21:34 PM
Well done!

Using the new form layout doesn't work well from iPhone. Will there be an easy way to convert whilst using an iPhone? It wouldn't give me access to the labs section as the two sidebars had crossed paths...

Cheers

@basenine: we are hiding right bar on narrow screens now.
basenine 9/9/2013 5:42:13 AM
Thanks Kirill. That's better
