I think this has been brought up a few times .An import template that allows the user to import data based on a format pre-set by admin user.Example is end user needs to import a bank statement does not have access to setup. Another option would to have more control/options over setup access so a user can only see the import option no Tables or tabs.

In setup, you can assign a user to be able to:
Manage Users
Manage Data
Manage Users and Data
No Access

The Manage Data is the option you want here... Or am I missing something?
I agree that a strict import functionality would be useful. It could get rather messy otherwise. Anyone else ever imported the wrong data without backing up first! Ouch - that's hours of pain right there...

Thanks basenine ,i will have look through the options but i still think it leaves all tables open to import and back end change. when a front user might not appreciate what they are doing.A full lock down of the set up, apart from one bit or is the possible already? IE Need front access to all tables and no set up access but say to one table.

I always have an import marker ie timestamp for import so its easy to undo a mass import ,found out the hard way!

Surely this can be controlled in setup so that users are limited to controlled import criteria which limits wrong data imports. i.e. same a processing normal records except with the option to import. In some instances being able to do this would improve accuracy and reduce the human error element.

At the moment, "Manage Data" users can import the data but can not create new columns while importing - basically that's all that is needed to enable import for regular users. Though, they still can select columns from dropdown to match columns in the file and there they can create a mess - consider the file has two date columns and the user selects columns in a wrong order... This could be solved by an ability to create an import template that provides mapping between the file's columns and table's columns but either we should limit the import to a single format or create some logic for selecting the template based on a file format?

I like the idea of being able to set up a template so the import process by users can be kept simple.

From my point of view, the import function with template should be accessible from the application and not from the setup.
For a normal user with the need of import business data, the setup part is too complicated.

I think you have highlighted the exact issue Simon. I think team desk is at the point where its no longer just an application for someone who makes a database for themselves but is now a serious development tool and needs to focus on, end user functionality, who do not have set up access. So you can deploy software with out the need for admin access and as a stand alone software.
Issues such as
User to be administered front end for non techs.
security based on front end for non techs.
Ability for documents to be added front end based on security.
A simple report generator front end based on security
Icons & headers for forms icons for report buttons
I think you then can deploy all kinds of software as a ready made packages.

Really its just opening all these screens from a url button as embedded in a frame without the setup menu or tabs without having to pay for the extra user.Similar to displaying the data from TeamDesk on a public web site.

also needs a team desk market place for users.

Sorry to go on and on.
