New type of view - Map
Using the MapQuest Open API, it will be possible to create a view that generates a map with multiple addresses stored within a table.

This will be a great feature to display outlets, customers, service points etc.

This would be amazing! Imagine if the dots were the color as chosen by the colorization algorithm. Table only needs lat,lng field and it becomes mapable.

I have a need to display my users last known location on a map. That means all users on 1 map, with the ability to click on the dot, and drill into their profile. Has anyone found a way to do this?
Gii Systems 7/24/2015 10:15:24 AM
Map view will be very useful in mobile applications. Please consider.
Gii Systems 8/30/2016 1:45:58 AM
Map views will add a lot of benefit to new Mobile Client generated data as we get the GPS locations easily into the database.

Maps / Native Map views - on the horizon? soon? :)
(So hoping the FB teaser relates.)

matter of week or two
Robert Gustavsson 4/10/2017 2:38:15 AM
Looks promising! To be truly useful I hope there will be good support for text labels, not just colored markers.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/10/2017 4:18:07 AM
Spoler: setup is identical to tile view, the card is displayed when user clicks on the marker.

Cannot wait.

Lookup columns not supported in map views?
Robert Gustavsson 4/19/2017 8:54:39 AM
... as location
Slava Shinderov  Staff  4/19/2017 9:26:25 AM
@Robert we've addressed the problem.
Robert Gustavsson 4/19/2017 9:45:39 AM
OK, great!

Any plans for Polygon Arrays on Map views?
Would be useful to be able to draw the Polygon like pin button allows the user to select location by dragging the pin around the map and then store the array. One could then determine if a positing falls within the selected area/polygon.

I'm finding use for it right away. Good stuff!
What I observed after some trial and error is, the best way to get the coordinates for pasting (at least in greater tokyo), is to do like this:

* find the location on google maps
* right click and select "what's here"
* click the lat, long string from the little popup at the bottom of the map
* copy the lat, long string out from the upper left where it is now displayed prominently
* paste into your location col and, profit!
Rick Cogley 4/19/2017 8:27:50 PM
On the new type of "Map" view, it would be convenient if there were a way to center the map on a certain area, and zoom to a certain level.

Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/20/2017 4:00:38 AM
* Clicking "pin" icon on the right of location input will display popup map with an ability to search for location or drag a pin, there is no need to copy-paste locations from google maps.
* Map view's center and zoom are calculated based on pins' locations - to fit them all. Specifying zoom factor may only be needed if there is one pin on the map, or all pins are indeed close to each other, but this looks more like edge case.

Scott Miller 4/20/2017 5:31:19 AM
The Pin and Compass icon are not visible on Safari or Chrome (fine on Firefox and Edge)
Rick Cogley 4/20/2017 5:52:22 AM
Echoing what Scott said: looking closely, yes, I can verify the icons (unicode?) are not showing in latest Chrome on mac.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/20/2017 6:08:43 AM
@Scott, Rick: looks like refreshing the page helps
Scott Miller 4/20/2017 6:15:21 AM
@Kirill Safari now ok but Chrome still missing icons
Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/20/2017 6:37:22 AM
Tried Chrome on both Windows and Mac, can not reproduce. Try clearing caches - three dots > More Tools > Clear browsing data, and uncheck everything but Cached Images and Files.
Scott Miller 4/20/2017 6:42:33 AM
All sorted :-)
Rick Cogley 4/20/2017 8:06:18 AM
Clearing cached images and files fixes it in chrome
Slava Shinderov  Staff  4/21/2017 7:59:34 AM
@All we've added pin clustering to simplify visualization of densely pinned maps.
Gii Systems 4/21/2017 8:10:06 AM
@ Salva - Could we have this as optional on the view setup?
Daniel Vazquez Ger 4/21/2017 8:38:59 AM
In my opinion what is lacking is:

1) The possibility of change the colour of the marker when you click it on.
2) The possibility of having labels in the marker such as prices.
3) The possibility of having hovers in the marker
4) The possibility to change the marker by another image.
5) The possibility to have a "slide show" for photos embedded in the infowindow. My be this coud be another kind of view.

I have done part of it in the following link:

https://dvazquezger.wixsite.com/royalprop/publicaciones

My best, Daniel

PS: Clustering is perfect !
Rick Cogley 4/21/2017 8:45:53 AM
Slava, love the clustering. Nice solution, that makes it really easy to drill down.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/21/2017 9:16:27 AM
@Gii: >>could we have this as optional<< It is hard to click on a proper pin when it is surrounded by other ones. However we can tweak some parameters to make clustering less aggressive. Could you please send us a link or screenshot with the problem at support?

@Daniel - indicating active pin and having the tooltip are good ideas. Having a label directly on pin will work well for short texts but in general will burden the map. Replacing marker with custom image will be hard for admins as in general image have to be carefully crafted to adopt to row colorization and different device resolutions.

Jeffrey Hicks 4/21/2017 9:29:03 AM
Very useful. Love how you can set the color of the pin. Thanks :)
Jeff Zortman 4/22/2017 9:34:25 AM
Great work! Would you make the map link go to same kind of map i.e. Map - Satellite links to Map - Satellite? If I configure to show a Map - Satellite and click on the map image, it currently takes me to a Map - Roads. Also, it would be nice to have the option of showing the map in a new tab. Thanks!
Robert Gustavsson 4/22/2017 10:51:57 AM
It would be nice if the maps could display multiple pins for multiple records with identical locations.
Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/25/2017 9:06:53 AM
Couple of tweaks:
* Clustering is now optional, on by default
* Worked around closely placed pins - when you click on one, marked with (+), pins underneath are placed in circle around their location.
* Pin displays header column as a tooltip
* Clicked pin is highlighted with more saturated color
* Adjusted links to Google Maps site - now map type and zoom factor is respected
Robert Gustavsson 4/26/2017 4:19:48 AM
Nice upgrade. A separate column choice for the tooltip would be nice too (header column font too large for my taste).
Kirill Bondar  Staff  4/26/2017 5:42:24 AM
@Robert: we'd better adjust header's font. It's indeed to large for info popup.
Scott Miller 6/13/2017 8:01:29 AM
@Kirill in the blog article you ended with this

PS: Coming up next… address auto-completion.

Is that based on postcode and what is the eta?
Kirill Bondar  Staff  6/14/2017 6:48:21 AM
@Scott - address autocompletion functionality can be seen when editing location column through the map. You start typing the address and dropdown below the search box proposes you to choose from 3-5 variants. Google is smart enough to detect postcodes, so yes, postcodes will be supported.

What we have not decided yet is whether address with autocompletion will be a special kind of section on the form or updateable column holding separate address components or special column type that will copy address parts to the columns of your choice - each case has own pros and contras. So, no ETA yet.
Scott Miller 4/4/2018 3:59:07 AM
@Kirill any news on the address autocompletion?
