When the cell takes all the available form's width the value goes to far to the right - that's why we align everything to the left on the form.
Thus can we assume that the right alignment applies only to the cells with 1/4 width?

Yes please - just for Single Column widths.... Essentially Numerical columns/values

As an experiment - we are now auto-aligning numbers and dates to the right of the cells set to Width 1.

This is working nicely and looks tidier.
It would still be nice if we could select which fields are Left/Right justified via a drop list in [Column] Setup.

I've had a few cases where even text on single width columns would look better justified to the right.

The forms can look somewhat messy with the mixture of left and right when you take into account lookups and single column text. It would be preferable to have the left/right option for other column types.

With all the amazing things TD can do, is adding in this functionality that difficult?

As Scott mentions, when you have a mixture of references (that come through as Text - even though the ref might be numerical...I have an instances of this) it turns what was a nicer looking form into something a bit hagged. i.e I just converted a Numeric column into a Table, now the reference field is text....if I want it to be editable by static editing (just by double clicking the field) then I need to show the editable field - the reference - in the form on "View".
