Documents based on view (mass mail merge)
An option to have a merge document on a view .At the moment the view has to be exported and a document made via the data. It would be very nice for a mass mail merge doc to be added to a view.

A document created with cross-matrix view??
Would that be possible?

What is the scope of the idea?

Is it to export the table as it is seen on the screen as the Word document? [as simple as copy-paste]
Or perform multiple document generation actions based on selected records? [depending on the number of detail tables can be slow]
Or perhaps perform generation but without records' details? [good balance between functionality and performance]

I am hoping to be able to use option 2, "perform multiple document generation actions based on selected records."

I would suggest "Or perform multiple document generation actions based on selected records?" with record details

I like Option 2.

Does Option three mean having it next to the View, Edit and Delete button?
If so, Option 3 for me as well please (preferable Option)

:)

I had seen it as similar to a custom button that you assign to a report .On the report you select the records to generate mail merge via tick option, click button for document and hey presto!! (as you dont want to see a load of docs on the report page)

I think it is very important to be able to merge the views along with the document. So for example all customers need a statement of purchases once a month .At the moment you would have to go into each record and create a document, admittedly you can use a url in the report to create a link in the record but it still means opening each one at a time.

I could be wrong but i thought it might be the case that the template is loaded with the data but the document mail merge is not generated until the create mail merge button is pressed in word. So the user sees the data load up very quickly and then activates the mail merge after load and accepts the delay. As you would get pretty cheesed off if you press a mail merge report by accident in team desk.

Hi anjuim. Do you relate the purchase orders to the customer and
See all of the purchase order records below the customer record?
Are you wanting to generate a statement of some (not all) of the related records?

Let me know if this is the correct scenario as I have a solution

Kind regards - Brett

Hello to all.
Creating documents out of views are very important. Consider a pricelist. How else can a pricelist be nicely formatted if not by allowing a view to integrate into a document?
Why should documents, only be available to specific records and their dependencies?
Thank you
Baret

"Or perform multiple document generation actions based on selected records? [depending on the number of detail tables can be slow]"

This would be awesome. It would be perfect to select records in a table and then process them all as documents in 1 button click.
